Online ESAT Tutor

One-to-one ESAT preparation that develops rapid problem interpretation, confident maths and physics problem-solving, and a disciplined balance of accuracy and speed.

I work with students applying to courses that require the ESAT and who want a structured plan for the relevant mathematics and physics modules, unfamiliar question formats and performance under time pressure.

Recognise the principle hidden inside an unfamiliar question

Translate information into a useful diagram or mathematical form

Balance accuracy, pace and question selection

Use timed work to improve decisions, not only speed

ESAT tuition begins with a diagnostic view of content and reasoning. We use targeted drills, careful post-question analysis and increasingly realistic timed sets. I teach efficient principles and heuristics, but students must then test them through independent practice.

Lessons are taught live online using a graphical tablet. The written working is shared as a PDF afterwards, giving the student a clear record to revisit.

Preparation differs from ordinary A-Level revision because the ESAT asks students to apply familiar knowledge in compressed and unfamiliar settings. The challenge is often interpreting the problem quickly enough to see what it is really asking.

Guided practice builds confidence, but tuition does not replace work between lessons. Reviewing errors and completing timed sets independently is what turns a useful idea into a dependable test habit.

I hold a PhD in theoretical physics and have more than ten years’ experience tutoring mathematics and physics from school through university level.

Students work directly with me in every lesson. My focus is on understanding, careful reasoning and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about esat preparation tuition.

How is ESAT preparation different from A-Level revision?+

The ESAT places greater pressure on rapid recognition, flexible application and decision-making. Course knowledge matters, but preparation must also train how you use it.

When should ESAT preparation start?+

Allow enough time for diagnosis, skill-building and several cycles of timed practice. The right starting point depends on current fluency and other commitments.

Can ESAT tuition cover only the modules I need?+

Yes. Preparation is matched to the modules required for the intended course and the student’s diagnostic needs.

Can tutoring guarantee a particular ESAT result?+

No. Tutoring can improve understanding, strategy and preparation quality, but performance also depends on the student’s independent work and decisions on the day.

What should I do between lessons?+

Students should revisit errors, practise targeted skills and complete agreed timed or untimed questions. Independent work is essential to make strategies reliable.
