Online A-Level Further Maths Tutor
Online Further Maths tuition for students who need to connect demanding ideas, develop mathematical maturity and approach multi-step problems with greater confidence.
Further Mathematics moves faster and asks for more independence than ordinary A-Level Maths. I work with AS and A-Level students, including those preparing for mathematically demanding degrees and those who need support with a particular optional module.
Move beyond routine methods towards mathematical reasoning
Connect complex numbers, matrices, calculus and proof
Choose an efficient route through demanding multi-step problems
Build foundations for mathematics, physics or engineering at university
Further Maths tuition differs from ordinary A-Level Maths support because the central challenge is often mathematical maturity rather than one missing technique. We unpack definitions and derivations, connect topics, use geometric or physical intuition and practise deciding how to begin when no standard route is obvious.
Lessons are taught live online using a graphical tablet. The written working is shared as a PDF afterwards, giving the student a clear record to revisit.
I provide enough scaffolding to make a difficult idea accessible, then reduce that support as the student becomes more confident. Useful shortcuts and heuristics are explained as consequences of the mathematics, not isolated tricks.
Independent work remains essential. Lessons improve the quality of that work by clarifying which principles matter, identifying dead ends and giving the student a broader view of how the material fits together.

I hold a PhD in theoretical physics and have more than ten years’ experience tutoring mathematics and physics from school through university level.
Students work directly with me in every lesson. My focus is on understanding, careful reasoning and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
I am keen for him to work with you as I can see you are brilliant at what you do.Parent of a student
Frequently asked questions
Questions about further maths tuition.
Do you cover optional Further Maths modules?+
Yes, where they align with my mathematics and physics background. Please include your exam board and module in your enquiry.
How does Further Maths tuition differ from A-Level Maths tuition?+
Further Maths often requires more abstract reasoning, stronger connections between topics and greater independence with unfamiliar multi-stage problems. Lessons therefore focus heavily on mathematical structure and strategy.
Do you work with students with dyslexia or dyscalculia?+
Yes. I have experience tutoring students with dyslexia and dyscalculia, although I do not hold a specialist qualification in learning difficulties. Lessons can use clearer visual structure, slower sequencing, repeated reinforcement and alternative explanations. Where appropriate, tutoring may be complemented by a formal assessment from a qualified professional. Tutoring itself is not a diagnostic service.
Can you guarantee a top grade?+
No tutor can responsibly guarantee a particular grade. My role is to help students perform as close to their potential as possible by improving understanding, problem-solving, exam technique and confidence. That also requires active effort from the student; attending lessons alone is not enough.
Do tutoring sessions replace independent study?+
No. Tutoring works best alongside independent practice. As a rough guideline, one hour of tutoring should usually be accompanied by around one hour of independent work, although this varies by student and stage of preparation. Understanding an explanation is only the first step; fluency develops by solving problems independently.
If I still need to study independently, what is the purpose of tutoring?+
Tutoring makes independent learning more effective. It provides structure and scaffolding, identifies gaps, connects new ideas to existing knowledge and shows which principles matter most. Lessons also develop problem-solving habits, help students recognise what questions are asking and avoid common dead ends. Independent work then turns that understanding into fluency.
Can lessons support university preparation?+
Yes. We can emphasise the conceptual and problem-solving skills most relevant to a planned mathematics, physics or engineering course.
